Ziyarat with children and elders

KBM Tours groups are family groups. Here is how North American families can plan a comfortable Ziyarat for little ones, parents and grandparents.

Traveling with children

  • Talk about the trip beforehand. Share stories of the Imams (as) so children know whose shrine they are visiting.
  • Pack snacks, a refillable bottle and a light stroller for younger children.
  • Put the hotel name and a phone number on a card in each child’s pocket.
  • Agree on a meeting point at each shrine in case anyone gets separated.
  • Children pay $200 for the ground package on our current trips.

Traveling with elders

  • Hotels close to the Harams keep walking short; this is how we choose our hotels.
  • Wheelchairs are available at the major shrines; tell us in advance.
  • Bring all medicines in original packaging, plus a written list of prescriptions.
  • Plan rest time and visit at quieter hours such as after Fajr.
  • Buy travel and medical insurance that covers Iraq.
  • For long journeys from the West Coast or Canada, consider a night’s rest in New York before the group flight.

Choosing the right trip

Quieter trips such as Thanksgiving in Iraq are easier than peak occasions like Arbaeen, and winter avoids the summer heat. If group dates don’t suit your family, we can plan a private trip.
