North of Karbala and Najaf lie the shrines of four more Imams (as): Kazmain in Baghdad and Samarra on the Tigris. Here is what to know before you visit.
The twin golden domes of Kazmain cover the graves of Imam Musa al-Kadhim (as), the seventh Imam, and his grandson Imam Muhammad al-Jawad (as), the ninth Imam. The great scholars Shaykh al-Mufid and Khwaja Nasir al-Din al-Tusi are buried within the complex.
Because groups fly into Baghdad, Kazmain is usually the first or last Ziyarat of a KBM Tours trip. Our Shaban groups spend a night at Balad Al Amin hotel in Kazmain.
About two hours north of Baghdad, the Askariyain shrine holds Imam Ali al-Hadi (as) and Imam Hassan al-Askari (as), the tenth and eleventh Imams, together with Sayyida Narjis (sa), mother of Imam-e-Zamana (atfs). Beside it is the Sardab, associated with the occultation of Imam Mahdi (atfs).
The golden dome was destroyed in 2006 and has since been rebuilt. Samarra is usually visited as a day trip from Baghdad, and is included on selected KBM Tours groups.
