Umrah and Ziyarat in one trip

Many North American pilgrims combine Umrah in Makkah and Madinah with Ziyarat in Iraq in a single journey. Here is how a combined trip works.

Guide · Updated 27 October 2026

Why combine them

Flying to the Middle East from North America is the biggest cost and the longest part of any pilgrimage. Combining Umrah with Iraq Ziyarat means one long-haul journey for two sacred trips, and more days at the holy sites for the time spent traveling.

A typical combined route

  1. Madinah: Ziyarat of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the Imams of Jannat al-Baqi (as).
  2. Makkah: Umrah at Masjid al-Haram, and Ziyarat of Jannat al-Mualla.
  3. Iraq: Najaf, Karbala and Kazmain.

The order can be reversed depending on flights and visas.

Visas

You will need two visas: a Saudi visa for Umrah and an Iraq e-visa. US citizens need an Iraq e-visa before travel (see our visa guide). Canadian and other passport holders should check the rules for their passport; we guide every pilgrim through both applications.

Planning tips

  • Allow at least 12 to 14 days for a combined trip.
  • Pack for Ihram as well as for the shrines in Iraq.
  • Ask us for a combined quote; see our Umrah page.
