The Kaaba at night inside Masjid al-Haram, Makkah

Umrah / Masjid al-Haram

Makkah al-Mukarramah

المسجد الحرام

Masjid al‑Haram

The most sacred masjid on earth and the home of the Kaaba, the qiblah of every Muslim in every prayer. This is where your Umrah is performed, and where KBM Tours pilgrims spend four nights a short walk from its gates.

The House of Allah

Where every prayer turns

At the center of Masjid al-Haram stands the Kaaba, the House of Allah, raised by Prophet Ibrahim and his son Ismail, peace be upon them. Millions of pilgrims circle it every year, and a single prayer here carries a reward like no other.

For many of our pilgrims, the first sight of the Kaaba is the moment they have waited for all their lives. Our team walks with the group into the Haram for that first moment, and through every step of the Umrah that follows.

The rites of Umrah

Umrah takes a few hours to perform. Before you travel, we explain every step in our online preparation session, and in Makkah our team performs it together with you.

الإحرام

Ihram at the Miqat

Bathe, put on the Ihram garments and make your intention for Umrah at the Miqat. On our group this is Dhul Hulayfah, on the way from Madinah.

التلبية

Talbiyah

From the Miqat onwards, recite the Talbiyah: Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk. Here I am, O Allah, here I am.

الطواف

Tawaf

Circle the Kaaba seven times, starting from the line of the Black Stone, with the Kaaba on your left.

مقام إبراهيم

Prayer and Zamzam

Pray two rak’ahs near Maqam Ibrahim if there is space, then drink the blessed water of Zamzam.

السعي

Sa’i

Walk seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah, remembering Hajar’s search for water for her son Ismail.

الحلق والتقصير

Halq or Taqsir

Men shave or shorten their hair, and women trim a small lock. Your Umrah is complete, and the restrictions of Ihram are lifted.

Inside the Haram

Places you will see

Our group leader points out each of these on your first visit, so you can find your way on your own for the rest of your stay.

Pilgrims performing Tawaf around the Kaaba
  • The Kaaba and the Mataf

The House of Allah, draped in the black and gold kiswah, and the open courtyard around it where Tawaf is performed day and night.

  • The Black Stone

Set in the eastern corner of the Kaaba, it marks the start and end of every circuit of Tawaf.

  • Maqam Ibrahim

  • Hijr Ismail

The two hills, now inside the masjid, between which pilgrims walk for Sa’i.

  • Zamzam

The blessed water that has flowed since the time of Hajar and Ismail, available everywhere in the Haram.

Questions

About Umrah in Makkah

What is the best time to perform Tawaf?

The mataf around the Kaaba is often calmer late at night after Isha, or in the hours after Fajr. Our group leader times the group’s Umrah to avoid the heaviest crowds where possible.

Do I need a permit to perform Umrah?

Yes. Every pilgrim needs an Umrah permit in the official Nusuk app before entering Makkah for Umrah. We help every pilgrim in our group set this up.

Can women and children perform Umrah with the group?

Yes. Many families perform Umrah with us, including young children and elders. Our staff walk with the group through Tawaf and Sa’i, and wheelchairs can be arranged for anyone who needs one.

Can I perform more than one Umrah?

Many pilgrims choose to perform another Umrah on the free day. Our team can explain how and take you to the Miqat at Masjid at-Tan’im if you wish.

Your journey to the House of Allah starts with one message.
